Pelješac Bridge (Croatia)

Weather…

The Pelješac Bridge is an architectural and infrastructural masterpiece that directly connects the southernmost part of Croatia with the rest of the country, bypassing the Neum corridor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The bridge spans the Mali Ston Bay between Komarna on the mainland and the Pelješac Peninsula. With a total length of 2,404 meters and a clearance height of 55 meters, the structure allows large vessels to navigate freely toward the port of Neum. The project was largely funded by EU cohesion funds and constructed by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). Its opening on July 26, 2022, marked a historic milestone for Croatia's territorial integrity and provided a massive boost to tourism in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Designed by Slovenian engineer Marjan Pipenbaher, the bridge's aesthetic harmonizes with the sensitive natural landscape of the bay. Beyond the bridge itself, the infrastructure project included over 30 kilometers of new access roads, tunnels, and smaller bridges on the Pelješac Peninsula. The bridge serves not only as a symbol of national unity but also as a catalyst for the economic revitalization of the peninsula and Korčula Island.
