Grožnjan, situated on a hill in the Istrian hinterland, is a fascinating example of cultural revival. In the 1960s, the medieval town was threatened with ruin following the exodus of its population, until artists and musicians transformed the empty stone houses into studios and galleries. Today, the town houses over 60 private galleries and is the seat of the International Cultural Centre of Young Musicians. Every summer, Grožnjan transforms into a giant stage as musicians from all over the world rehearse and perform here, with the 'Jazz is Back!' festival being a particular highlight. The architecture, with its cobblestone streets, Renaissance palaces, and Venetian city gate, has remained almost untouched. From the walls, there is a sweeping view over the Mirna Valley all the way to the sea. Grožnjan is a place where the silence of the Middle Ages meets the lively energy of contemporary art.

Welcome to Grožnjan, the city of artists. The morning begins at the Loggia, where time seems to stand still. Stroll through the medieval alleys to the city gate and feel the history of the massive walls. At midday, immerse yourself in the world of art. The Spinotti Palace and the Fonticus Gallery show why this place was revitalized by artists in the 1960s. Every corner offers a new detail or a small gallery. The afternoon is dedicated to music and crafts. At the International Cultural Centre, classical sounds are often heard, while the Old Smithy reminds of the hard work of past days. A walk to the Balwan Gate rounds off the exploration. At the end of the day, the Chapel of St. Cosmas offers peace before you head to the viewpoint over the Mirna Valley. Here you will experience one of Istria's most beautiful panoramas when the sun bathes the hills in golden light.
Morning begins under the protective roof of the City Loggia, as rain makes the limestone pavements of the narrow streets glisten. The atmosphere is quiet and almost mystical. At noon, the Fonticus Gallery and the studios within Spinotti Palace provide dry havens for art lovers. The sound of rain on old roof tiles accompanies your exploration. In the afternoon, visit the International Cultural Centre and the churches, where Baroque interiors offer a warm contrast to the grey sky outside. The evening ends cozily in a rustic konoba, where the scent of truffles and the patter of rain against the windows create a sense of true Istrian comfort.

Afternoon is dedicated to the 'Golden Hour' before the early sunset around 17:00. The city walls glow in warm red tones before the evening chill sets in. In the evening, lights flicker in the windows of the stone houses. A dinner by the fireplace with Istrian wine is the perfect end to this meditative day.
