The Port of Mutsamudu on Anjouan island is the only deepwater port in the Comoros and plays a strategic role in regional maritime traffic. It underwent significant modernization during the 1980s to accommodate large container vessels and cruise ships. Due to its sheltered location and advanced infrastructure, it serves as a major transshipment hub for goods in the western Indian Ocean. A substantial portion of the goods destined for the entire archipelago are handled here, making Mutsamudu the economic engine of Anjouan. The port facilities include several terminals and warehouses that support the export of locally grown products like ylang-ylang and cocoa. Its proximity to Mutsamudu's historical city center and citadel connects modern logistics with centuries of history, making the port a prominent feature of the urban landscape.

Visiting

Mutsamudu Port is the only deep-water port in the Comoros, mainly for cargo traffic. Visitors can view the port area from a nearby vantage point or the dock area.

Port operations happen during the day, but public access is limited to the dock road. No official visiting hours, but best visibility in the morning.
