Moya is a scenic coastal town in the south of Anjouan (Nzwani) and is considered one of the most important tourist destinations in the archipelago. Known for its remarkable location on a horseshoe-shaped bay, the town has one of the island's rare and most beautiful sandy beaches, framed by dramatic volcanic cliffs. Despite its popularity, Moya has maintained an authentic character, with fishing and agriculture still being the primary livelihoods of the population. The calm waters of the bay are protected by a coral reef, making it a handy spot for traditional outrigger canoes. The town itself is characterized by a mix of modern buildings and traditional huts lining the coastal road. Fertile slopes surrounding Moya are home to coconut palms and ylang-ylang trees, whose scent often fills the sea breeze. As a center for sustainable tourism, Moya hosts small guesthouses that introduce visitors to Comorian hospitality. Its secluded southern location gives the place a peaceful atmosphere, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the larger port cities.
