Suong is the capital city of Tboung Khmum Province in eastern Cambodia, designated as the administrative center of the newly formed province in 2014. Located along National Road 7, the city serves as a central hub for the trade of agricultural commodities, particularly rubber and pepper. Historically, the area was a significant part of Kampong Cham Province before it was separated to better manage the region's growing population and economic output. Near Suong lie some of Cambodia's largest and oldest rubber estates, including the famous Chup plantation, which was originally established by the French during the colonial era. The city is rapidly transforming into a modern administrative hub with new government complexes and expanding infrastructure. The local economy is bolstered by the region's rich basaltic red soil, which is exceptionally well-suited for high-yield plantation agriculture.
