Royal Palace of Cambodia (Cambodia)

Weather…

The Royal Palace of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is an extensive complex of buildings that has served as the official residence of the Kings since its construction in 1866. The site is located on the western bank of the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers and comprises magnificent examples of classic Khmer architecture. A prominent feature is the Throne Hall with its 59-meter-high tower, topped with the four faces of the god Brahma. Another significant part of the complex is the Silver Pagoda, whose floor is laid with over 5,000 solid silver tiles. Most of the buildings were constructed during the reign of King Norodom under French colonial administration, strictly maintaining traditional stylistic elements. Today, a large portion of the palace grounds is open to visitors, while the private residential area of the reigning King remains closed. The compound is surrounded by high walls and serves as the center for royal ceremonies and religious festivities.
