Otres Beach

Otres Beach spans several kilometers along the coastline south of the port city of Sihanoukville. During the 2010s, the beach was divided into three distinct areas (Otres 1, 2, and Otres Village) and was famous for its laid-back backpacker vibe featuring simple wooden bungalows, casuarina trees, and calm waters. It was the primary alternative for travelers looking to escape the noisy party scene of nearby Serendipity Beach. Since 2019, the area has undergone a dramatic transformation. Massive infrastructure projects and the construction of numerous large-scale casino hotels have completely changed the landscape of Otres. The traditional beach bars and small guesthouses have largely been cleared to make way for wide boulevards and high-rise developments. The southern stretch, Otres 2, remains slightly less developed than the northern section. The water at Otres Beach is generally shallow and calm. Small longtail boats still depart from here offering day trips to nearby offshore islands like Koh Ta Kiev. The new expressway has drastically reduced travel time, making Sihanoukville and Otres accessible from the capital Phnom Penh in just over two hours.
