Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park is located in northwestern Bulgaria, encompassing a significant portion of the Balkan Mountains near the city of Vratsa. Established in 1989, the park is famous for its impressive karst landscape, which is among the largest in Bulgaria. The area hosts over 500 caves and potholes, including the renowned Ledenika Cave, famous for its unique stalactite and stalagmite formations. The park's flora is highly diverse, featuring numerous endemic and rare plant species that thrive on the limestone soils. The fauna is equally rich, with significant populations of birds of prey, such as the griffon vulture, which has been successfully reintroduced to the area. Spectacular rock faces like the Vratsata Gorge attract climbers and nature enthusiasts from all over Europe. The park plays a crucial role in protecting karst ecosystems and provides a wide network of trails for eco-tourism.
