The easy on the eye mountain village of Bov is located in the heart of the Iskar Gorge within the Balkan Mountains, about 50 kilometers north of Sofia. The settlement is divided into the original mountain village and the Gara Bov district along the banks of the Iskar River. Bov is a significant hub for Bulgarian ecotourism, serving as the starting point for the famous Vazov Eco-trail. One of the region's most striking natural landmarks is the Skaklya Waterfall, which drops from a height of 85 meters, making it one of the tallest in the country. A local legend claims the village was named after the French crusader Marquis de Boeuf, who was captured and eventually settled here after the Battle of Adrianople in the 13th century. The Bulgarian national writer Ivan Vazov spent considerable time in Bov, drawing inspiration from the spectacular gorge landscapes for many of his works. Today, Bov attracts numerous hikers and nature enthusiasts who appreciate the steep limestone cliffs and the pristine Balkan wilderness.
