Klisura is a historic town set in the easy on the eye Balkan Mountains of Bulgaria, renowned for its heroic role in the 1876 April Uprising against Ottoman rule. Located at an altitude of approximately 670 meters at the edge of the Rose Valley, the settlement served as a strategic center for the revolutionary struggle led by Nikola Karadzhov. The town was tragically burned to the ground during the suppression of the revolt, but its resilient population rebuilt it from the ashes in the subsequent years after the liberation. Today, Klisura is a significant cultural landmark, housing a detailed Historical Museum and several well-preserved National Revival houses that showcase 19th-century Bulgarian life and crafts. The Zli Dol memorial site, situated on a nearby hill, marks the location of the heaviest fighting and gives panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
