Vitosha Nature Park (Bulgaria)

Weather…

The Vitosha Nature Park is located directly south of the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, and is the oldest nature park in the Balkan Peninsula. Established in 1934, it encompasses the entire Vitosha mountain massif, with its highest peak, Cherni Vrah (Black Peak), reaching an elevation of 2,290 meters. The park is famous for its unique geological formations known as 'stone rivers,' where massive, rounded boulders appear to flow down the valleys. Its vegetation ranges from dense coniferous forests to alpine meadows, hosting a rich variety of flora and many endemic species. Serving as the primary recreational area for Sofia's residents, the park has numerous hiking trails, ski slopes, and climbing routes year-round. It also contains significant historical monuments, most notably the UNESCO-listed Boyana Church situated at the mountain's foot.
