Copacabana Fort (Brazil)

Weather…

The Forte de Copacabana is located at the southern tip of the famous Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro and was completed in 1914. The fortress was built to reinforce the entrance to the port of Rio de Janeiro and the defense of Brazil's capital at the time. A significant historical event was the 1922 Revolt of the 18, a precursor to the Tenentismo movement against the Old Republic. The facility features massive armored domes with Krupp cannons that had a range of up to 23 kilometers. Since 1987, the fortress has housed the Army Historical Museum, showcasing Brazil's military history from the colonial era to the present. Visitors can tour the underground bunkers and ammunition stores built deep into the rock. The location also gives a sweeping view across the entire Copacabana Bay and Sugarloaf Mountain. Today, it is a major cultural center attracting thousands of tourists annually, blending historical exhibitions with modern leisure activities.
