Buzios
Armação dos Búzios, commonly referred to simply as Búzios, is an upscale resort town located on an impressive peninsula in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Once a quiet fishing village, Búzios gained international fame in the 1960s after a visit by the French actress Brigitte Bardot, whose bronze statue still graces the Orla Bardot promenade. Today, it is often called the "St. Tropez of South America," attracting a chic crowd with its boutique hotels, fine dining, and sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. The main draw of Búzios is its incredible coastline, which features over 20 distinct beaches, each offering a unique vibe. The west-facing beaches, like Praia da Tartaruga, offer calm waters and beautiful sunsets, while the east-facing beaches, such as Geribá, are famous for their strong waves and excellent surfing conditions. The town center revolves around Rua das Pedras, a characterful cobblestone street lined with designer shops, art galleries, and lively bars that stay open late into the night. The well-suited time to visit Búzios is from April to June or September to November, when the weather is warm, the skies are clear, and the peak summer crowds have dissipated. Getting to Búzios typically involves a scenic two to three-hour drive from Rio de Janeiro. Whether seeking water sports, romantic dinners, or simply lounging on pristine sands, Búzios provides a great tropical getaway.
