Construction of the current cathedral began in 1808 following the collapse of the previous church and was not completed until 1836. The design was conceived by Spanish architect Manuel de Sanahuja, who favored a strict and elegant style that stands in contrast to the city's elaborate Baroque architecture. The exterior impresses with its harmonious proportions and the use of white stone. Inside, the cathedral features high vaults, magnificent Corinthian columns, and a grand altar area. The church also houses a significant organ and valuable religious artworks. As the seat of the Diocese of Potosí, it plays a central role in the region's religious life and is an essential part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage designation.
