Lake Toho is a smaller but ecologically valuable inland body of water located in the Mono Department of southwestern Benin, near the town of Lokossa. Covering about 15 square kilometers, the lake is known for its clear waters and rich fish stocks, which form the cornerstone of the local economy. The lake is part of a larger wetland complex and serves as an important sanctuary for various bird species and a water source for local livestock. The shores of the lake consist of fertile soil intensively used for growing vegetables and maize. Culturally, Lake Toho is closely linked to the traditions of the surrounding villages, where fishing is often conducted according to ancestral rules using handmade nets. Recently, there have been efforts to develop local ecotourism around the lake, focusing on protection against overfishing and water pollution.
