Lake Togo is a vast, shallow lagoon separated from the ocean by a narrow strip of land. It is a hub for recreational activities such as sailing, windsurfing, and canoeing, especially popular for day trips from Lomé. On the northern shore lies Togoville, a town steeped in history where the 1884 protectorate treaty with Germany was signed. Togoville is also a significant center of the voodoo religion, where visitors can witness shrines and traditional ceremonies. The nature surrounding the lake is peaceful, dotted with reed beds and small fishing villages. Gastronomically, one should try fresh-caught tilapia and 'akoumé'. Access is mostly via Agbodrafo, from where traditional pirogues ferry visitors across the lake to Togoville. The best time to visit is during the dry season to enjoy the calm waters and cultural sites without rainfall.
