Cerro Torre (Argentina)

Weather…

Cerro Torre is one of the most spectacular and controversial mountains in the history of alpinism, located in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. This striking granite needle is famous for its vertical walls and the distinctive ice mushroom that forms at its 3,128-meter summit due to constant winds and freezing mist. Despite being lower than its neighbor Fitz Roy, its sheer verticality and the harsh Patagonian environment make it one of the most difficult peaks to conquer. The first undisputed ascent occurred in 1974 by a Lecco Spiders team, following decades of debate over earlier claims. Today, it remains a ultimate prize for elite climbers, while its dramatic silhouette continues to draw photographers and nature lovers to the shores of Laguna Torre at its base.
