Monte León National Park (Argentina)

Weather…

Monte León National Park in Santa Cruz province is Argentina's first coastal marine national park and a jewel of the Patagonian coast. Created in 2004 after a generous donation from the foundation of Douglas Tompkins, the park protects a unique landscape of cliffs, beaches, and rich marine biodiversity. Its most famous landmark is the 'Lion's Head', a rock formation that resembles a lying lion and gives the park its name. Monte León is home to a significant colony of Magellanic penguins, with over 60,000 breeding pairs, as well as colonies of sea lions and cormorants. The park's intertidal zones are exceptionally rich, offering the opportunity to discover a great variety of marine invertebrates and algae. The arid Patagonian steppe in the park's interior creates a dramatic contrast with the rich coast.
