Port of Namibe (Angola)

Weather…

The Port of Namibe, located in the city of Moçâmedes, is the most vital seaport in southwestern Angola and the gateway to Huíla Province and the Angolan highlands. Geographically, the port benefits from its sheltered position within the Baía de Moçâmedes, making it a reliable hub for the fishing and mining industries. Historically, from the 19th century onward, it served as the starting point for the colonial expansion into the south and is currently the terminus of the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM). Key exports include granite, marble, and iron ore, while the port is also essential for supplying the arid southern regions with fuel and foodstuffs. In recent years, the port has undergone modernization with Japanese assistance to accommodate larger vessels and improve container handling capabilities. Beyond its economic role, the area surrounding the port is famous for its rich fishing tradition, which shapes local gastronomy and culture.
