Theniet El Had Cedar Forest

The Theniet El Had National Park, located in the Tissemsilt Province, is affectionately known as the "Forest of Cedars." Covering a significant portion of the Ouarsenis mountain massif, this park is distinguished by its vast, ancient stands of Atlas cedars, some of which are centuries old. The dense canopy and mountainous terrain create a microclimate that is noticeably cooler and wetter than the surrounding plains. Hiking is the primary draw of Theniet El Had, with numerous trails navigating through the majestic trees and leading to elevated viewpoints. The highest peak in the park, Ras El Braret, reaches over 1,700 meters, rewarding trekkers with sweeping panoramas of the Tell Atlas mountains. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife, including wild boars, foxes, and numerous bird species, making it an excellent spot for birdwatching. The park is accessible by road from the town of Theniet El Had, which lies roughly 160 kilometers southwest of Algiers. The journey takes visitors through scenic agricultural landscapes before ascending into the wooded highlands. Spring is particularly beautiful when wildflowers bloom, while autumn provides spirited foliage. Even in summer, the high altitude ensures comfortable conditions.
