Hammam Righa, located in the Aïn Defla province at an altitude of over 500 meters, is one of the oldest and most famous spa resorts in Algeria. The healing properties of the hot springs were discovered as early as the 1st century by the Romans, who named the place 'Aquae Calidae'. The thermal water, rich in sulfates and calcium, gushes from the ground at temperatures up to 68°C and is traditionally used to treat rheumatic complaints and skin diseases. The spa buildings still exude a colonial charm, although they have been modernized in recent decades. Surrounded by the dense pine and oak forests of the Zaccar Mountains, the town provides not only relaxation in the baths but also excellent opportunities for nature lovers. Numerous hiking trails lead through the wooded landscape and offer dramatic views over the Chelif Valley. Visitors appreciate the clean mountain air and the peaceful atmosphere, which forms a stark contrast to the urban bustle. In the local restaurants, guests can enjoy hearty Algerian meat dishes and fresh vegetables from the fertile region. The spa resort is open all year round, but the mild climate in spring and autumn is particularly well-suited for long hikes and subsequent relaxing baths. Hammam Righa is located about 100 kilometers southwest of Algiers and is easily accessible via the East-West highway. It is a great destination for travelers who want to combine health, history, and nature in a tranquil setting.
