The limestone massif is best accessed from the rural villages of the central Mat region. Unpaved local tracks lead through agricultural areas right up to the higher elevation trails.

Best season
Spring and autumn are well-suited for climbing to the 2101-meter elevation without facing extreme temperatures. Following heavy rains, however, the lower paths approaching the massif can become very muddy.

The terrain is defined by prominent limestone formations and steep, sometimes pathless slopes. Good navigation skills are required, as the landscape in the upper sections can be highly confusing.

What to bring
Sturdy hiking boots with deep treads are essential for a secure grip on the jagged limestone. Because the area is central yet remarkably remote, a first aid kit is also a mandatory packing item.

Parking spaces can be found on the edges of the rural communities in the Mat region. Usually, vehicles can be safely left near the road after a brief, polite consultation with local residents.

When wet, the prominent limestone transforms into an extremely slick and hazardous surface. Additionally, the sheer isolation of the region should not be underestimated; always carry offline maps.
