Pyramid of Tirana (Albania)

Weather…

The Pyramid of Tirana is one of the most striking and debated landmarks in the Albanian capital. Originally opened in 1988 as a museum dedicated to the late dictator Enver Hoxha, the building was designed by a team of architects led by his daughter, Pranvera Hoxha. Following the fall of communism, it transitioned through various roles, including a cultural center, a disco, and even a NATO base during the Kosovo conflict. For many years, the structure fell into disrepair and was frequently vandalized while public debate swirled over its potential demolition. Between 2021 and 2023, the Pyramid underwent a radical transformation by the architectural firm MVRDV. Today, it functions as a spirited technology and innovation hub for youth known as TUMO Tirana. The new design features external staircases that allow visitors to climb to the summit for panoramic views of the city. The Pyramid now symbolizes Tirana's ability to repurpose its complex history into a future-oriented community space.
