Holta Canyon is a striking natural wonder located near the town of Gramsh in central Albania, carved by the Holta River into the limestone landscape. Stretching for about 3 kilometers, the canyon features towering vertical walls that reach heights of up to 150 meters. It is characterized by its narrow passages, which in some sections are only a few meters wide, creating a dramatic sense of scale. The river water is exceptionally clear and exhibits a bright blue hue, creating small cascades and natural pools along its course. Reaching this hidden gorge usually requires a drive on unpaved roads near Gramsh, followed by navigating directly into the riverbed. A robust vehicle with good ground clearance is strongly recommended.

Visit exclusively during late spring or summer when the water levels are predictably low and safe. Heavy rains in autumn and winter can trigger deadly flash floods within the narrow limestone walls.

The canyon exploration fundamentally involves river trekking. You will wade through varying depths of water over slippery rocks, uneven gravel, and occasional submerged drop-offs.
