Shrine of Khwaja Abu Nasr Parsa (Afghanistan)

Weather…

The Shrine of Khwaja Abu Nasr Parsa is an outstanding example of Timurid architecture in the heart of the ancient city of Balkh. Built in the late 15th century, the shrine is dedicated to a respected 14th-century Sufi theologian and spiritual leader from Herat. Although he died in Herat, this magnificent mausoleum was erected in his honor in Balkh, a city of deep religious and historical significance. The building is known for its impressive, ribbed, turquoise dome, which sits on a high, octagonal drum. The facade is decorated with brilliant mosaic tiles in geometric patterns and calligraphic inscriptions. The spiral columns at the entrance gate are another distinctive feature. Despite its age and the region's turbulent history, the shrine has largely retained its architectural splendor and remains an important pilgrimage destination and a jewel of the Timurid heritage in Afghanistan.
