Ban Gioc–Detian Falls (Vietnam)

Weather…

The Ban Gioc, Detian Falls are a memorable natural masterpiece situated on the international border between Vietnam and China. Fed by the Quay Son River, the falls drop over three distinct tiers of limestone cliffs, spanning a total width of approximately 300 meters and a height of 30 meters. It is officially recognized as the fourth largest cross-border waterfall in the world, following Iguazu, Victoria, and Niagara. The Vietnamese section is located in Cao Bang Province, while the Chinese side, known as Detian, lies in Guangxi Province. Surrounded by a dramatic karst landscape and lush forests, the falls provide a panoramic scenery that changes with the seasons. During the rainy season from June to September, the water volume increases significantly, creating a thunderous roar and a perpetual mist. Visitors on the Vietnamese side can take bamboo rafts close to the cascading water for an immersive experience. The falls are a centerpiece of the Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark. Since late 2023, a joint tourism cooperation zone has allowed visitors from both sides to access the entire waterfall complex under a simplified cross-border permit system.
