Cao Bang
Cao Bang is a frontier paradise for nature lovers and adventurers in northern Vietnam. Part of a UNESCO Global Geopark, the province is dominated by jagged limestone peaks, emerald rivers, and deep valleys. Its crown jewel is the Ban Gioc Waterfall, a thunderous and majestic multi-tiered cascade that straddles the international border with China. Beyond the waterfalls, visitors can explore the historical Pac Bo Cave, where Ho Chi Minh sheltered upon his return to Vietnam, or marvel at the incredible stalactites in Nguom Ngao Cave. The region is the ancestral home of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups, offering travelers a chance to experience authentic highland hospitality and traditional stilt-house stays. Reaching Cao Bang takes about 6-8 hours by bus from Hanoi through winding mountain passes. The best time to visit is from September to October, when the harvest turns the rice terraces golden and the waterfalls are at their most powerful following the summer rains.
