Israel Olive Tree

The Israel Olive Tree is a living symbol of peace and the diplomatic relations between the State of Israel and the Holy See. It was planted in June 2014 as a gift to Pope Francis to commemorate his historic journey to the Holy Land and his tireless commitment to interreligious dialogue. The tree originates from Galilee and is several hundred years old, which enhances its symbolic depth as a sign of endurance and deeply rooted traditions. It is situated in a prominent location not far from the St. John Tower and forms a distinctive point in the Mediterranean flora of the Vatican. The planting took place in a ceremony attended by high-ranking representatives of both states, recalling the joint prayer for peace in the Middle East.
