Aydar Lake

Weather…
Water temperature…
Aydar Lake is a vast man-made water body located in the Kyzylkum Desert, serving as the core of the Arnasay lake system in northern Uzbekistan. Its creation was an unintentional consequence of the extreme 1960s flooding, specifically in 1969, when excess water from the Chardara Reservoir was diverted into the Arnasay depression to avoid dam failure. Over the years, the lake has evolved into a thriving ecosystem, supporting dozens of fish species and providing a crucial stopover for migratory birds like pelicans and cormorants. The brackish waters of the lake have established it as a significant center for commercial fishing and a growing destination for ecotourism. Visitors are drawn to the lake's shores for fishing, birdwatching, and staying in traditional yurt camps that offer a glimpse into desert life. The presence of such a large body of water has a noticeable cooling effect on the local microclimate and provides essential water for livestock in the surrounding arid lands. Today, Aydar Lake is recognized as one of Uzbekistan's most important natural assets for biodiversity conservation.
