Punta del Este is an internationally renowned seaside resort in southeastern Uruguay, considered one of the most exclusive in South America. The city is located on a peninsula that separates the Atlantic Ocean from the Río de la Plata and is famous for its beaches, luxury hotels, and lively nightlife. Founded in the early 20th century, it experienced a rapid rise from the middle of the century to become a meeting point for the international elite. One of its most iconic landmarks is the sculpture 'La Mano' (The Hand) by Mario Irarrázabal, which emerges from the sand on Brava Beach. Another architectural highlight is Casapueblo, the residence, workshop, and museum designed by artist Carlos Páez Vilaró. The city is also a major center for sailing and yachting, hosting the country's largest private marina. The nearby Gorriti Island features historical fortifications from the colonial era and quiet beaches.
