Sorokyne (formerly Krasnodon) is an industrial city in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, historically central to the country's coal mining. The city gained worldwide fame during World War II as the home of the 'Young Guard', a clandestine anti-Nazi youth organization. Their story of heroic resistance made Sorokyne a symbol of youthful courage. The main landmarks are dedicated to this history, including the Young Guard Museum. The city's economy is dominated by coal mines. Given its location in a region of conflict since 2014, travel is not advised. The name was changed from Krasnodon to Sorokyne in 2016 as part of decommunization.
