Novyi Svit, which translates to 'New World,' is one of the most pretty settlements on the Crimean coast. Its modern history began in 1878 when Prince Lev Golitsyn founded the first sparkling wine factory here, utilizing traditional French methods. The Novyi Svit winery continues to operate today, aging its award-winning champagnes in extensive tunnels carved into the rocks. The town is surrounded by a unique botanical reserve of ancient juniper groves, which fill the air with a distinct, healthy aroma. The most popular tourist route is the Golitsyn Trail, a scenic path carved directly into the seaside cliffs. It leads past the Chaliapin Grotto, a massive natural cave with exceptional acoustics, and features striking views of three distinct bays: Blue, Green, and Light Blue. Mount Sokol (Falcon) towers over the town and is a favorite challenge for rock climbers. The location enjoys a sheltered microclimate, protected from winds by the surrounding mountains. The beaches are pebbly, and the water is exceptionally clear and deep blue. Although it is located just 7 kilometers from the city of Sudak, Novyi Svit feels much more secluded and exclusive. The best time to visit is late spring for hiking or September for wine enthusiasts during the grape harvest season.
