Star Refinery Aliağa

The Star Refinery in Aliağa, north of Izmir, is one of the most modern oil refineries in Europe and represents the largest single private sector investment in Turkish history. Developed by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) with an investment of approximately $6.3 billion, it was officially opened in October 2018. The facility has an annual crude oil processing capacity of about 10 million tons and was primarily designed to reduce Turkey's dependence on imports of diesel, jet fuel, and naphtha. Its immediate physical and process integration with the Petkim petrochemical complex creates a highly integrated value chain. The refinery employs state-of-the-art technologies to maximize the yield of valuable light products and complies with the strictest international environmental standards. This landmark project not only enhances Turkey's energy security but also serves as a milestone in economic cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
