Seferihisar joined the international Cittaslow (Slow City) movement in 2009, becoming the first municipality in Turkey to do so. Located 45 kilometers southwest of İzmir, the town builds its identity on traditional lifestyles, local producers, and sustainable tourism. The historical core is formed by the 16th-century castle and harbor of the Sığacık district, which hosts a farmers' market on Sundays. Along the town's long coastline are several certified beaches. Büyük Akkum Plajı and Küçük Akkum Plajı are known for their fine sandy shores. Ekmeksiz Plajı is situated in a protected bay surrounded by pine forests. Akarca Sahili and İztur Plajı are characterized by colder marine currents and pebbly sections. South of the settlement lie the ruins of the ancient Ionian city of Teos, featuring the largest Temple of Dionysus in the Anatolian region. The area has significant citrus orchards, primarily Satsuma mandarins, as well as rich geothermal energy resources that are also utilized in agriculture.
