Datça
Datça is an under-the-radar destination on the Turkish Riviera, where tranquility and untouched nature prevail. The peninsula is famous for its crystal-clear bays like Palamutbükü and the welcoming stone houses of Old Datça (Eski Datça). Visitors come here to escape the crowds and enjoy an authentic Mediterranean atmosphere. The highlight of the region is the ancient city of Knidos at the tip of the peninsula, once a major center for art and science. The local gastronomy is centered around the 'three treasures': almonds, honey, and olive oil. Hikers can enjoy the Carian Trail, which has spectacular coastal views and hidden paths. It is most easily reached from Dalaman Airport via a scenic two-hour drive through pine forests. The best time to visit is during late spring or early autumn, when the temperatures are mild and the sea is warm enough for swimming.
