Pamukkale (Turkey)

Weather…

Pamukkale, meaning Cotton Castle in Turkish, is a globally unique natural site located in southwestern Turkey within the Denizli Province. Its terraced travertine basins were formed over millennia by the deposition of calcium carbonate from the thermal waters of 17 hot springs. These brilliant white cascades stretch approximately 2700 meters in length and reach a height of 160 meters along the hillside. Directly above the terraces lie the ruins of the ancient Greco-Roman spa city of Hierapolis, founded in the 2nd century BC. The thermal water, which maintains a constant temperature of about 35 degrees Celsius, has been used for therapeutic purposes since antiquity. Since 1988, Pamukkale and Hierapolis have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site to protect the fragile ecosystem and archaeological treasures. Visitors today can bathe in designated areas of the healing waters while enjoying the panoramic views of the Denizli plain.
