Ain Draham
Ain Draham surprises many travelers with its atypical Tunisian architecture and landscape. Located in the Kroumirie Mountains at an altitude of over 800 meters, its houses with steep red-tiled roofs resemble a European alpine village more than North Africa. The town is surrounded by the country's largest cork oak forests, which are excellent for hiking and birdwatching. The climate here is significantly cooler and wetter than in the rest of the country; in winter, snow can even fall. Ain Draham is a popular destination for active travelers and hunters (especially wild boar hunting). The fresh mountain air and healing spring water make the town a recognized health resort. In the small shops of the village, you can find high-quality handicrafts made from cork and carved briar wood. For a culinary treat, try the local game dishes and mountain honey. The best time to visit is summer to escape the coastal heat, or autumn for the forest's animated colors. Access is via winding scenic roads from Tabarka or Jendouba.
