The El Feija Forest is located in northwestern Tunisia, near the Algerian border, and forms the core of the El Feija National Park. This protected area covers approximately 2,600 hectares within the Kroumirie Mountains, a branch of the Atlas range. The forest is renowned for its dense stands of Zen oak (Quercus canariensis) and Cork oak (Quercus suber), which are unique in North Africa for their pristine state. El Feija serves as the most important sanctuary for the endangered Barbary stag, the only deer species native to Africa, whose population has been successfully recovered here. The landscape is characterized by high rainfall and cool temperatures, supporting lush, almost jungle-like vegetation. Numerous springs and streams crisscross the area, contributing to its exceptional biodiversity. For visitors, the park gives marked hiking trails leading to spectacular viewpoints such as the 'Statue of the Woman' rock, providing panoramic views across the Tunisian-Algerian border.
