Bako is a town in northwestern Ivory Coast, part of the Odienné Department in the Kabadougou Region. The settlement is located in the Denguélé District, set within a hilly savanna landscape shaped by seasonal rainfall. Economically, Bako is heavily dependent on agriculture, with rice cultivation in the fertile lowlands and livestock farming on extensive pastures being the dominant activities. In recent years, cashew nut production has also gained prominence as a major cash crop in the area. Local society is deeply rooted in Malinké traditions, which is reflected in the social organization and cultural practices of the inhabitants. The 2014 census recorded a population of approximately 17,000 people for the Bako sub-prefecture. Despite its modest size, the town serves as an essential supply point for the surrounding rural population. The local administration is working to expand basic services, such as potable water and education, to slow down migration to larger urban centers.
