Jabal Abu Rujmayn (Syria)

Weather…

Jabal Abu Rujmayn is a prominent mountain range in central Syria, extending northeast of the city of Palmyra. It forms part of the Palmyrene mountain chains and acts as a natural barrier between the Syrian Desert and the more fertile plains to the north. Geologically, the massif is composed primarily of limestone and chalk dating back to the Cretaceous period. Its highest peaks reach elevations of approximately 1,300 meters, offering expansive views over the surrounding steppe. Despite the arid desert climate, several artesian springs exist in its valleys, which have supported nomadic tribes and small agricultural oases for millennia. Historically, the range served as a strategic observation point for caravan routes connecting Palmyra to the Euphrates River. The vegetation is sparse, consisting mainly of drought-resistant grasses and shrubs that provide grazing land for traditional sheep and goat herding.
