Jabal al-Shumariyah is a mountain range of moderate elevation located in central Syria, northeast of the city of Homs. It is part of the Syrian desert highland and serves as a transition zone between the fertile plains to the west and the arid Badia steppe to the east. The peaks reach heights of up to 1,000 meters and are characterized by a semi-arid climate that supports only sparse vegetation. Geologically, the region consists primarily of sedimentary rock rich in phosphates, making Syria a significant exporter of this raw material. Historically, the area was a transit zone for Bedouin tribes and lies near important ancient trade routes connecting the coast with the Euphrates Valley. In recent history, the area has gained strategic significance due to its proximity to natural gas fields and the transportation routes between Homs and Palmyra.
