Shaer Gas Field

The Ash-Shaer gas field is one of the most significant natural gas resources in central Syria, located in the desert region east of Homs. It became operational in the late 2000s and quickly emerged as a cornerstone of the national power generation system. The field consists of numerous wells and a modern gathering station that prepares gas for transport through the national pipeline grid. Due to its isolated desert location and critical importance to the country's energy supply, Shaer was the site of intense fighting multiple times during the Syrian conflict. Past sabotage of the facilities led to widespread power outages in Damascus and other major cities. Currently, securing the site and expanding production at the Shaer field is a top priority for Syrian energy policy to mitigate the national energy deficit and reduce reliance on imports.
