City Hall Winterthur (Switzerland)

Weather…

The Winterthur City Hall (Stadthaus) is a significant architectural monument of the Historicist style and is regarded as one of the major works by architect Gottfried Semper. Built between 1865 and 1869, the building serves as the administrative seat and the meeting place for the city council of Winterthur. Its monumental facade, crafted from yellow Bollingen sandstone, draws inspiration from the Italian Renaissance, reflecting the city's economic prosperity during the 19th century. Inside, the building houses the renowned Stadthaussaal, a concert hall famous for its exceptional acoustics and regularly used by the Musikkollegium Winterthur orchestra. An extension was added between 1932 and 1934, carefully designed to harmonize with the original structure. As a cultural heritage site of national importance, it remains a central landmark in Winterthur's urban landscape.
