Stäfa
Stäfa is positioned in the rolling hills of the Pfannenstiel on the right bank of Lake Zurich. The municipality has a settlement history dating back to the Neolithic period, evidenced by archaeological finds of pile-dwelling settlements. The first documentary mention occurred in 972 under the name Stafa. For centuries, the local economy was shaped almost exclusively by viticulture, which is still reflected in the extensive vineyards that dominate the landscape today. Stäfa is considered the largest wine-growing community in the Canton of Zurich, producing high-quality white and red wines. In the 18th century, the town also developed into a center for the textile industry, leading to economic prosperity and architectural changes. Famous guests like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed in Stäfa and praised its idyllic setting. The community preserves its village character despite its proximity to the metropolis of Zurich, offering a high quality of life with a blend of historic half-timbered houses and modern infrastructure. The S-Bahn transport links make Stäfa a popular residential area for commuters, while the lakeshore and hiking trails on the Pfannenstiel attract numerous leisure seekers.
