Wädenswil is an attractive city located on the Zimmerberg on the left bank of Lake Zurich in the Canton of Zurich. The settlement has its roots in the stilt house era but was first mentioned in documents in 1130 as Wadenswil. Historically, the location was the center of the Lordship of Wädenswil, which later fell to the city of Zurich. In the 19th century, Wädenswil developed into a significant industrial hub, particularly for the textile and clothing industries, which is still reflected today in the distinctive factory buildings along the lakeshore. Today, the city is a regionally renowned center for education and research, primarily through the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and the Agroscope research center for fruit-growing, viticulture, and horticulture. The landscape is characterized by the lakeshore and the gentle hills of the Zimmerberg, with viticulture still playing an important cultural role. A popular excursion destination is the Au peninsula with its castle and wine museum. The Alt-Wädenswil castle ruins, once the seat of the Barons of Wädenswil, testify to the medieval significance of the location. Thanks to its excellent transport links to the city of Zurich, Wädenswil has also developed into a favored residential area that combines urban infrastructure with recreation close to nature.
