Opfikon is located in the Glatt Valley in the Canton of Zurich and, together with the district of Glattbrugg, forms a dynamic urban landscape. Due to its immediate proximity to Zurich-Kloten Airport and the city of Zurich, Opfikon has evolved from a farming village into one of Switzerland's most important economic hubs. The city consists of the two historical centers of Opfikon and Glattbrugg, which have now largely merged. A milestone in urban development is Glattpark, a new district built on former agricultural land that provides housing for thousands and jobs in state-of-the-art architecture. At the heart of Glattpark is an artificial lake serving as a recreational space. Numerous international corporations have their headquarters here, giving Opfikon a high density of service-sector jobs. In terms of transport, the city is excellently connected via two S-Bahn lines and the Glattalbahn light rail. Despite heavy industrialization and urbanization, emphasis is placed on maintaining the paths along the banks of the Glatt River, providing a green contrast to the modern buildings. The demographic structure is characterized by high internationality, which is reflected in a diverse gastronomic and cultural scene.
