💡 Tips
- The famous Smögenbryggan (Smögen boardwalk) is best photographed early in the morning before the summer crowds arrive.
- Parking near the boardwalk is very expensive and fills up quickly; park further out and walk.
- In summer, buy fresh shrimp directly from the fishing boats or the fish auction building (Fiskauktionen).
- Bring sturdy shoes if you plan to explore the smooth, pink granite rocks (klippor) on the island's west side.
- For a cheaper boat trip, take the small passenger ferry Hållöfärjan out to the nearby island of Hållö.
🍽 Food
Famous fresh shrimp boiled in seawater, best eaten on the rocks.
Freshly smoked or fried mackerel, available at the local fishmongers.
A massive open-faced sandwich piled high with hand-peeled shrimp, egg, and mayo at the cafes on the boardwalk.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Canned herring, local sea salt, and fresh seafood from the stalls near the harbor.
The boardwalk is lined with small shops selling summer clothes, swimwear, and souvenirs.
A slightly calmer swimming spot located among the rocks, away from the main pier.
Follow the walking paths out to the rocky western shore (Kleven) for uninterrupted sea views and sunset watching.
Take the short ferry ride to this nature reserve island to enjoy the smooth rocks and the striking lighthouse in peace.

Smögen is one of the best-known holiday resorts on the Swedish west coast and a symbol of maritime Bohuslän. Its heart is the 600-meter long Smögenbryggan, a wooden boardwalk lined with former fishing huts that now house boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. The combination of characteristic colorful wooden houses and smooth pink granite rocks makes it one of Sweden's most photographed destinations. Culinary life here revolves around seafood. The Smögen fish market is one of the most important in the country, and the Smögenräkor (shrimp) served here are a true delicacy. In addition to strolling along the pier, trips to the surrounding archipelago islands are highly recommended. Swimming spots on the rocks are extremely popular in summer. Smögen is connected to the mainland by a distinctive arched bridge and is best explored on foot to experience its narrow streets and authentic island charm.
