Nordens Ark is a private non-profit wildlife sanctuary and conservation center located in Sotenäs Municipality, Bohuslän, Sweden. Established in 1989 on the historic Åby estate, it is operated by a foundation dedicated to the preservation of endangered species. The facility covers approximately 383 hectares of diverse landscape, including rocky cliffs and wetlands, providing naturalistic habitats for its inhabitants. It currently houses about 80 different species, with a particular focus on those adapted to northern and temperate climates, such as snow leopards, Amur tigers, and red pandas. Nordens Ark is a key participant in international breeding programs and conducts extensive research and educational outreach. The center also maintains a section for traditional Scandinavian farm breeds to preserve domestic genetic diversity. Its ultimate goal is to facilitate the reintroduction of captive-bred individuals into their wild habitats to strengthen global biodiversity.
