Gränna is located on the eastern shore of Lake Vättern in Jönköping County and was founded in 1652 by Count Per Brahe the Younger. The town is internationally renowned for the production of Polkagris, a traditional Swedish candy cane invented here in 1859 by Amalia Eriksson. Its urban landscape features steep streets lined with meticulously preserved wooden buildings dating back to the 17th century. From the harbor, frequent ferries connect the mainland to the island of Visingsö, once the power base of the Brahe family and a historical seat of Swedish royalty. Overlooking the town are the ruins of Brahehus, a manor built in the 17th century that has expansive views across the lake. Gränna is also home to the Grenna Museum, which documents the 1897 polar expedition of S. A. Andrée, a famous explorer born in the town. This combination of culinary heritage and historical significance makes Gränna a premier destination in the Småland region.
