Voltzberg (Suriname)

Weather…

Voltzberg is a prominent granite dome located in the heart of the Central Suriname Nature Reserve, rising to a height of about 240 meters. This geological formation is a classic example of an inselberg on the ancient Guiana Shield. Climbing to the summit provides an unparalleled 360-degree view over the vast, unbroken tropical rainforest of Suriname. The area around the mountain is famous for its rich birdlife, particularly the rare Guianan Cock-of-the-rock, which uses the vicinity for its lekking displays. Geologically, the dome consists of Precambrian granite that has been exposed through millions of years of erosion. It is located near the Raleigh Falls on the Coppename River and can only be reached by boat followed by a trek. The isolation of Voltzberg has helped preserve a unique micro-ecosystem on its rocky slopes and surrounding forest.
